2 Day Three Years Class
General Description
Three-year-olds are busy and curious. Our goal is to channel these wonderful behaviors and guide them into the world of learning. Classes focus on social interaction, language development, and fine motor and gross motor activities. Class size is limited to 14 (one lead teacher, one assistant teacher). We offer the class at two times on Tuesday and Thursdays: mornings from 9:00am - 11:30am or afternoons from 12:30pm - 3:00pm. Students must be 3 years old to attend. Curriculum Goals
Social:
- Follows classroom routine
- Responds to own name
- Plays with other children in the class
- Is able to take turns
- Participates in imaginary play
- Follows one step directions
- Takes care of personal items
Language:
- Uses language appropriately to express wants and needs
- Carries on conversations with teachers and other students
- Initiates play using language
Math:
- Sorts objects by color, size, item
- Can complete beginning patterns: two colors or objects
- Recognizes numbers up to “5”
Science:
- Engages in simple science activities and is able to discuss what happened
Pre-reading:
- Recognizes their written name, and can find it in several places in the room
- Sequences pictures to make a story
Fine-motor:
- Engages in coloring, painting, beginning writing and other activities that promote fine motor skills
Gross-motor:
- Climbs, jumps, walks, runs during gross-motor activity time
- Participates in ball handling, music, dance and game time
Teachers use:
- Zoo-phonics— for beginning phonics based reading
- Tubbing– a math program that uses manipulatives for sorting, categorizing, patterning, adding and subtracting
- Storybook journeys– using a book and the story line to present math, science and literacy lessons.
All units incorporate these goals in a variety of ways to developmentally challenge the student. These are goals we will work toward in class, but each child will move forward at their own developmental rate.
