Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

May I enroll my child in the two day Threes Class if he or she is not yet 3?

Oregon state law now requires that children under 36 months cannot be in a preschool classroom unless a parent is in the building. Young Learners provides two options for enrolling these children who have birthdays between September and December. A parent can:

  • Enroll and pay the registration fee and we will hold the space until the child's third birthday, then he or she can start.

  • Enroll the child and the child can begin in September, and the parent (or the parent's designated representative) will need to stay on-site during class time. We have a space for parents to wait and read, knit or visit with other parents. Or they can help with little jobs around the school (cutting, copying, hanging bulletin boards, etc.) After the child's third birthday, the parent will no longer need to stay in the building.

What is the difference between the two day Three's and the three Day Transition classes?

The difference between two day three's and our three day Transition program is that our two day program usually has students that are slightly younger; many have just turned three years of age. Children who are 3 1/2 in September or are turning four in the fall should go into the Transition class, especially if they have attended preschool before.

Transition has a morning and afternoon program, and class size is limited to 16 children.

Children who have not been to preschool before might be better in our two day class. Our three's have a morning and afternoon program, and class size is limited to 14 children.

What is the difference between the three day Four's, the four day Four's and the Pre-K classes?

Any student that is four years of age by September 1st can enroll in any of these classes. If a child is in a lot of activities a three or four days program may be enough (we do not believe in over booking children), but the choice is up to the parents. The biggest difference in the classes is the number of days they attend. Since the Pre-K students come five days a week they have more exposure to activities, but the goals for the three, four and five day classes are very similar. All classes have morning and afternoon classes; the three day and four day Four's are limited to 18 children per class, the 5 day Pre-K is limited to 20 children per class. They all meet for 3 hours; the morning program runs from 8:30am-11:30am and the afternoon program is from 12:30pm-3:30pm.

What are the enrollment guidelines for the Kindergarten class?

Students must be five by September 1st to attend our extended day Kindergarten program. Class curriculum will follow the goals in reading, math, science and literacy of the Beaverton School District's Kindergarten program. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:00 - 1:00 PM. Class size is limited to 15 children.

How do I register for summer camps?

Summer camp registration is a separate process that begins in April. More information about the camp times, themes, cost, etc. will be available at the end of March/beginning of April. We will send this information home with students and post it to the website.
